Meter

Definition: Meter is the number of syllables in a poem.

Example: .
.1.............. 2.................3..............4................ 5
Shall.I..|..com.PARE..|..thee.TO..|..a.SUM..|..mer’s DAY?

Significance: Meters in poems make the poem is the pattern of the poem. Meters are important because the meter makes the lines of the poems have a rhythm.

Rhyme

Definition: Rhyming is a lead up rhythm. Rhyming is making two words sound alike.

Example: It was purchased just for you,
when you're happy or you're blue,
you can wear it on your head,
'round the house or in your bed,
you can wear it in the dark,
while you're strolling in the park.

You can wear it going to Church,
or by the tele watching Lurch,
you could wear it to do the wash,
or when cooking stew or squash.

Frosty Freeze is like Carvel,
always had this great old smell,
frozen custard, ain't it grand,
lots of trips to that old stand,
Werner Brooks and A & W,
didn't have Wawa or VW.

Thought this shirt might have some power,
to take old cancer to the shower,
to make you laugh and push that bug,
with a big old "Frap" and a giant mug.

Whatever it does, it's inspired from above,
and sent from your brother with a whole lot of
LOVE.

Significance: Rhyming in poems makes the rhythm. The rhythm makes the poems smooth. Without rhyming there would be no rhythm.

Rhythm

Definition: To make smooth beat so the poem flows nice and clean.

Example: Music is part of my everyday life,
it's the one thing that makes me feel alive.
No matter what it could be,
all music influences me.

Music teaches me everything I do,
After hearing the words, you know it suits you.
Without music I don't know what I would do,
when I'm feeling bad it's the only place I can go to.

Music is my life, my desire,
As I listen, it builds me higher.
No matter what kind, rock, country, or rap,
you can't convince me that any of it is crap.

Whatever you're feeling, whether its happy, sad or fear,
just turn it up and listen to what you hear.
To me music could never go wrong,
I could listen to it all day long.

Significance: If poems didn't have rhythm then the poem wouldn't flow so smooth and it would also be boring. Rhythm is important because it goes it shows the emotions in the poem and helps tell the story.
